The difference in latency between Dolphin and my Gamecube on CRT is minor, this while using the same monitor, same controller, same PC config etc. Fundamentally it's the only emulator I've used where the input lag is unacceptable. It's something that's plagued PCSX2 for years and I've lost countless hours of trying to fix it with tinkering. The difference is night and day by a large margin, even a 50hz PAL game will be noticeably more playable on the real thing but certainly an NTSC game will be stupidly noticeable between the two. To the point that I took my ps2 out of retirement and re-obtained a CRT for that very reason. I am one of those who's been screaming from the rooftops about PCSX2 input lag for nearly a decade. I've been considering modding a controller with an LED and getting a high speed camera to get more accurate numbers for a while. Running in exclusive fullscreen, disabling vsync & the PCSX2 framelimiter and using RTSS Scanline Sync to limit instead can help limit an additional latency for example.īut you aren't ever really going to get better than hardware lag. And I doubt run-ahead for PS2 is ever going to be a thing. You can do a lot of things to mitigate quite a bit on PCSX2 now, but a large portion of it is simply there to begin with. And because you are already in the 100+ms range in many games an extra frame or so makes it seem worse than it is in reality. So adding what little lag a near lagless LCD has and USB controllers it makes it feel just a bit worse than real hardware. PS2 games have a lot of input lag on real hardware, even 60FPS games like Star Ocean, Devil May Cry, Gran Turismo, Armored Core,Dark Cloud, etc. Join us at /r/EmuDev Android Emulator accuracy tests:Īre you an emulator developer?
